The Calcium Score is a test used to detect calcium deposits found in atherosclerotic plaque in the coronary arteries. More advanced methods allow more accurate CT to detect coronary artery calcification in atherosclerosis, before symptoms develop approximations.

More coronary calcium means more coronary atherosclerosis, indicating an increased likelihood of collapsing a part of the coronary system and hence an increased risk of future cardiovascular problems.
